The 3D View Part 1
By: Saheed Badru

When a child is born, the child has to be properly nurtured and taken care of through different stages of his/her life. To make a good and responsible individual in future requires proper upbringing of the child. The child is metaphorically described as our talents and potentials. When a talent is born (discovered), it has to be properly maintained in other for it to grow into excellent success. As I explained earlier, I stressed the importance of self discovery and honesty. But in other to bring out value from these two, one will need to have an ?inner eye?. This is what is called INSIGHT. You ought to be able to have a 3D view of situations. I mean seeing things in 3 dimensions. I am not saying carrying an object and looking around it, I am talking about knowing why, how and when something works. Having this ability enables you to handle and manage situations properly.

If we pause to think of how great people like Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, John Dalton, Isaac Newton and a host of others made significant achievements. We will see that they didn?t just wake up one day and performed great wonders! It took them various procedures. They made use of their ?inner eyes? to carefully observe things around them and acted on the result of their observations. This is just the way every individual has to use his/her insight to produce success.

Gaining insight about something is not instantaneous or automatic. In fact, insight is not acquired, it is developed. Most people do not take note of their insight and therefore loose precious advantages. Insight comes in many ways such as;

Listening to the achievers and believing we too can do the same. Understanding that achievement is not restricted to a group of people, anyone from any background can achieve. Taking advantage of opportunities by learning from every possible source Learning from mistakes and achievements of others.

There are three practical and productive steps to insightful thinking; Observation/Research Reflection Commitment

To gain insight about a situation, you have to first observe that situation. You have to ask yourself ?why is this thing like this?? or ?How can it be done better?? Whatever question you create in your mind, it his your sole responsibility to find a reasonable answer to it. Observation and research are the basic building blocks. Asking questions from others who have achieved is a vital role. When you ask questions, you learn from their experiences, mistakes and accomplishments. It helps you answer questions like;

  • What brought you where you are now?
  • What inspires you the most?
  • Who are the people who mostly helped?
  • Who or what almost held you back?
  • What were your regrets?
  • These give you a 3 dimensional view of such people. It gives you the opportunity to see the good, the bad and the ugly sides of life. Whatever we do in life, we?ll need to ask questions to gain a better view of situations. After questioning, sticking to the act of reading is very important. So many people use excuse that they don?t know how to read. But I must tell you; anyone with physical sight can read. You just need to cultivate the habit and develop interest in it. With time, you?ll get used to it. I am not saying you have to be a bookworm, I am only trying to stress how important it is for you to read. Reading expands your scope on a concept in which you hope to gain insight about.
