Happy New Year 5 Step Recovery to the Resolution Mania By: Kym Moore Are New Year?s Resolutions so yesterday? Why do we tend to sit and wait for January 1st of every year to roll around and make resolutions that we will break 99.9% of the time, before the week is out? We celebrate a new (calendar) year, but every day of our lives is the beginning of a new year for something. Some of your popular resolutions may include, but are not limited to: ? Losing weight ? Enjoying life more ? Spending more time with your family ? Taking a vacation ? Making more money ? Getting out of debt ? Stop smoking or drinking ? Going back to college ? Volunteering more ? Getting more organized So what are you waiting for? Are we inadvertently taking ?time? for granted? Why do we seem to think that time is perpetual? When?s the right time? Here and now! Strategically set realistic goals to be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time. The two keywords here are ?realistic? and ?reasonable.? Sometimes, we set ourselves up for failure because we are not following through with these aggressive ?New Year?s? declarations, that fizzle within a twenty four hour period of making them. Here are 5 "disciplined" steps to help you recover from having withdrawal symptoms as a resolution maker and breaker: 1. Resolution: Analyzing; planning; goals. 2. Preparation: Getting ready; research; putting things in order. 3. Implementation: Carrying out those plans. 4. Solution: Achieving the goal by following through. 5. Elation: The happiness you feel for your resolution outcome. Follow-through is the key to making those New Year's resolutions, no matter what day of the year you make them, come to fruition. Don?t wait around for Father Time to slip up behind you and punch your time card. If we spend ?less? time on those things that we shouldn?t, then we will have more time to enjoy those things that are fulfilling and worthy of our attention. Time is far too precious to waste!
