Do You Spend Too Much Time at Work
By: Bette Daoust PhD

In the United States, people work longer hours and work harder than any other nation. They work more than the Japanese. They also take less vacation time. Although we should be proud of this statistic, we are also highest in divorce and alienated families. Not only do you have to balance your work load at the office, you need to add family activities to have a full rounded life. I know that work is life for a lot of people and socializing becomes difficult. It is making the effort to add a social aspect that is important.

You family is only around for a short period of time, especially if you have children. We all need to kick back and enjoy them. Life is about balance and not overdoing any one aspect unless it is absolutely necessary. I am termed a workaholic and find it difficult to go out and have a relaxing good time. If I do then I am thinking about what I should be doing for my work. Take the time and schedule other events into your calendar, go golfing, play tennis, go for a run, and play with your kids, get involved in their activities and enjoy your work and your family. It will help you build better business relationships.

If you can manage your activities, then the time you need will manage itself. Put yourself on a schedule and make sure you schedule in time for yourself and your family. You will certainly be happier and you will also be able to enjoy the rewards of working so hard.
